Winter 2022 Grandparent Newsletter
Dear Nueva Grandparents,

Happy new year! I hope that 2022 is off to a healthy, safe, and cheerful start for you and yours. It was wonderful to see many of you in November at our virtual Grandparents' and Special Friends' (GPSF) Day celebration. The excitement and enthusiasm exuded through Zoom was palpable, and it was very meaningful for our students to share the joyful learning that happens at Nueva with you. Special thanks to all who shared photos of you wearing your Nueva sunglasses and using your GPSF Day tumbler. If you'd still like to share your photo, please email gpsfd@nuevaschool.org.

On behalf of our faculty and staff, we are very grateful for your continued engagement and support of your grandchildren and our Nueva community.

Best,
Diana Chamorro

A Day in the Life
At Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day, we shared a video highlighting life at Nueva from a student's perspective. We invite you to peek into campus life and the student experience and hear reflections from students on their fall semesters.

COMMUNITY:
STATE OF NUEVA ADDRESS

On January 13, Head of School Lee Fertig hosted his inaugural State of Nueva address for current families. During his remarks, he identified key priorities for Nueva, including ensuring health and safety, maximizing teaching and learning, sustaining wellness, and building community engagement.

CONNECTION:
STORIES OF FAITH

Over the month of December, multiple faiths celebrate and contemplate a range of holidays and holy days. In honor of the many people within our Nueva community who practice a faith, upper school students and faculty shared their stories of faith as a way to elevate and recognize the many identities and beliefs that shape who we are.

DETECTIVES:
SECOND GRADE HISTORY

The Nueva School campuses sit on land that was once inhabited by the Ohlone people. To learn more about and celebrate the people on whose land we learn, this fall second graders did a deep dive into the past and present lives of the Ohlone people. Their research culminated with the second annual—and first in-person!—Ohlone Conference, where students presented to each other the questions they explored, the information they learned, and what they hope to investigate next.
