Welcome Lee Fertig, get involved & more!
July 2020 Alumni Newsletter
Welcome,
Lee Fertig!

On July 1, we welcomed Lee Fertig to officially began his tenure as Nueva's new head of school.

In his first communication to the current parent community, he shared, "I am so pleased to be writing my first official communication to all of you! I began working full time for Nueva this past week, and I am already fully immersed in all that this wonderful learning community has to offer: a student-centered approach to education."

CALL TO ACTION:
ALUMNI SUPPORT GRADS

Whether together on campus or spanning the globe, Nueva alumni share a unique and tight-knit communal bond. That connectedness was recently demonstrated by an outpouring of support for the Class of 2020. FRONTLINE HERO:
JILLIAN BALKENHOL '10

During the final months of school, the popular Fireside Chat series sparked many engaging discussions in its new virtual format.

In May and June, discussions covered a variety of topics, including former Palo Alto mayor Peter Drekmeier, who led a conversation about the fraught and complex issue of water management and conservation in California. Another Fireside Chat invited Nueva parents, students and faculty members to join an Asian Heritage Month panel. On June 3, alumna and nurse Jillian Balkenhol '10 joined a panel of frontline healthcare providers on post-COVID-19 recovery and what those on the frontlines are experiencing on a day-to-day basis.
